Revere was soon released, but he had already helped give the colonial militia a key advantage by alerting them to the impending attack by the British. The Battles of Lexington and Concord would spark the Revolutionary War. Revere’s next stop that late night was Concord, Massachusetts, a hotbed of the resistance and the suspected location of the British troops’ second attack. But Revere, Dawes and a third rider named Samuel Prescott were captured by the British en route, and only Prescott reached Concord. On April 18, 1775, Revere set out in the dark from his North Boston home by horse with William Dawes to reach Adams and Hancock.

Determined to receive a proper hearing, Revere petitioned the Massachusetts government seven times for a court-martial before one was finally convened in February of 1782. The court-martial ruled that Revere be found not guilty of all charges, although the language in the second charge was somewhat equivocal. Revere accepted the result as a vindication of his honor, and returned to his business activities. During the economic depression that followed the French and Indian War, Revere began working as a copperplate engraver.

While the hotel opened in the 1920s, after the Great Depression and WWII, it had been decades since El Mirador was used as a hotel (it had even been converted to a military hospital). Since the property was considered "army surplus," its investors had a $5 million budget and Williams's 1953 design instantly became a local landmark. USS Cassin Young is a Fletcher class destroyer built in 1943 in San Pedro, California. Serving in the Pacific during World War II, Cassin Young earned seven battle starts and survived two Kamikaze hits. Following the war, she ultimately served another decade throughout the 1950s. This was because of the overhauling and maintenance she underwent here at the Charlestown Navy Yard on several occasions.

The two riders met Adams and Hancock in Lexington and enabled the revolutionaries to avoid arrest. Paul Revere did not gain immediate fame for his April 1775 "Midnight Ride." In fact, it wasn't until Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's 1861 poem, which greatly embellished Revere's role, that he became the folk hero we think of today. In 1902, Paul Revere’s great-grandson, John P. Reynolds Jr. purchased the building to ensure that it would not be demolished. Over the next few years, money was raised, and the Paul Revere Memorial Association formed to preserve and renovate the building. Revere himself was the son of a French immigrant father and a mother descended from the earliest settlers of New England. Revere apprenticed to his father where he learned the highly skilled trade of gold and silver smithing. Revere's wife Sarah managed the household and cared for the children while Paul handled the family business.
In an article in the Los Angeles Times (July 24, 1927), Williams describes instances where visitors to the city see his home designs and want to build a duplicate home. "The Spanish homes built here are usually a wonderful improvement on their prototypes in Europe, a thing that is generally admitted by visitors here from Spain." Williams' design for the 28th Street YMCA in the Central Avenue area of Los Angeles includes Spanish Colonial red clay roof tiles, a row of arched windows on the second-floor and smooth stucco finish. Bas-relief panels with busts of African American heroes, including Booker T. Washington and Frederick Douglass provide decorative detail in terra cotta with vines and scrolls. In 2011, it was decided by the Coalition for Responsible Community Development and Clifford Beers Housing that the building would receive a badly-needed renovation from Koning Eizenberg Architecture.
